ACT Deputy Chief Minister Andrew Barr will announce the Winner of Round #1 of the Digital Canberra Challenge competition and launch the Round #2. The Digital Canberra Challenge competition is an ACT Government initiative to engage Canberra's brightest minds to help build and support a dynamic, healthy and prosperous Digital City for the 21st century.

The evening's program also includes a thought-provoking presentation on public-private partnerships by Nicholas Gruen, prominent Australian economist and commentator on Web 2.0; CEO of Lateral Economics; Chairman of Peach Financial and founding Chairman of Kaggle.

12 Jul 2012 Governance and Risk Management in Large Scale ICT-enabled Projects

In this lunchtime seminar, three speakers including both researchers and practitioners, will share their opinions on, and experiences with, both successful and not so successful large-scale IT projects. Each speaker will present their position on the topic, followed by a panel session for open Q&A with the audience.

27 Jun 2012 Best of GovHack June 2012

GovHack is an event where a number of government departments release data sets. Hackers are invited to work over a weekend (many stay up until the early hours of the morning) to develop new applications using these datasets. On 1-3 June a GovHack was held with 140 hackers forming 45 teams working across two locations to develop a number of exciting applications.
The Best of GovHack will showcase some of the prize winners from this event. Come along to see presentations from a number of winning teams.

30 Nov 2011 Community Spaces: Collaboration and Information Sharing in a Trusted Environment

The three speakers for this event will share their experiences of using collaboration environments for information sharing and coordination of activities within a community of interest. The benefits to government organisations of this approach will be described, and key issues will be raised and debated by a panel of users and solution providers.

Brisbane City Council is about to release data such as: bus stop locations, bin collection days, CityCycle locations, parking areas, Eat Safe ratings and even dog parks to the public and we want to see what you can do with it.

A HackFest is a chance to work on your own or with other developers in a team over a short period of time to deliver something fabulous, quirky, innovative or ingenious.

HackFest Brisbane is timed to coincide with the launch of the hack::Brisbane competition that challenges software developers to help improve Brisbane with creative new apps or websites that use Brisbane City Council data.

26 Oct 2011 Embedding ICT and AAL within the WHO's Global Age-Friendly Cities Framework

NICTA and the eGovernment Cluster's eHealth interest group are hosting a Big Picture seminar featuring Rodd Bond, the Director of the Netwell Centre. The centre is built around developing ambient-assisted-living as part of a whole community approach to aged care and health. Rodd will outline how the Netwell Centre was developed and give updates on ICT in aged health.

Mr Greg Farr is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Department of Defence, one of Australia's largest telecommunication organisations. Beside the normal demands of clients, staff and stakeholders, he also responds to the demands of Parliament, government policy makers and Australia's military operations.

GovCamp is an “unconference” event where people from government get together to share knowledge, network, and find opportunities to collaborate. It is targeted at implementers, such as developers, user experience experts, social media and communications people, technical and project managers, open data people and any other aspects of technology use and innovation in government.

The eGovernment Technology Cluster is providing a lunch forum on 'Mobile Government', featuring presentations from Alacrity Technologies, BlinkMobile Interactive and Nsquared Solutions. These presenters in addition to government agency representatives will form a panel for a Q&A session.

The e-Government Cluster’s e-Health interest group, together with AIIA and CollabIT, are providing a lunch forum on e-Health to give an update on what’s happening “on the ground” and “over the horizon” regarding e-Health in Australia. This forum is aimed at ICT and health companies and is open to the general public.

9 May 2011 Public Sector Reform and E-Government: Lessons Learned from the US Experience. Presented by Terry Buss

Many policy makers view IT as the platform upon which to build and achieve the three E’s, in the process making government more transparent and accountable, while in some cases promoting economic opportunity. At the same time, many believe that IT has a long way to go before it meets the expectations and promise.

This presentation looks at recent US experience culling lessons learned in the latest public sector reform initiatives, especially identifying barriers and proposing an agenda for overcoming them.
